Dr. Alan Keyes is a Harvard PhD. He was Assistant Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan, under whom he was on the staff of the National Security Council. He also served two years as America's Ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council. He has campaigned for the Republican nomination for president in 1996 and 2000, when, despite being "iced" by the media and "frozen" out of the debates, he gained a huge following as the favorite among hard core conservatives in the party (
during years when the nominees - Dole and Bush II - could hardly be considered conservative
).
Dr Keyes has gained a reputation as an outstanding orator and apologist for the constitutional and Christian causes. It is apparently at least in part because of this eloquence that opponents generally do all they can to avoid debating him. He is a past president of Citizens Against Government Waste and the originator of National Taxpayers' Action Day. He has served as interim President of Alabama A&M University. He speaks French and has studied three other languages.
Keyes is a 3-time GOP Senate nominee - twice in Maryland (
a liberal state in which his opponents - Mikulski and Sarbanes - have long been entrenched
) and once in Illinois, where he entered the race as a late replacement and had to face off against Barack Obama. He is a tried and true warrior in the right to life fight, having devoted extensive energy in that regard for decades.
Dr Keyes' positions on the issues dovetail perfectly with those of SAS, as they do with those of the great majority of American patriots.
SAS likes the following candidates for offices other than president or vice president. Our support of a given candidate does not necessarily indicate any affiliation with SAS, but does indicate we look favorably upon the candidate's character and positions on the issues.
